It is proven that chronic inflammation decreases your body’s immune system response to be able to fight off bacteria and viruses.  Gingivitis is a chronic inflammatory process!  The bloodstream carries the bacteria from your mouth to other parts of your body, like the lungs and heart. It’s important to remember that it’s not normal to have bleeding gums when you brush your teeth. This information may be more important now than ever before.

Keep your mouth healthy by:

  • Using an electric toothbrush, either the Sonicare or Oral B. Brush longer and in circles, let the brush do the work.  Keep the brush half on the gum, and half on the tooth!
  • Floss your teeth!  Use a water flosser, traditional string, swords, or perio pics. Floss under bridges and fixed retainers.
  • Limit sugar.  Don’t suck on candies.  Stay away from sugary energy drinks. Even some Gatorade and other sports drinks contain a lot of sugar. Rinse with water after drinking something with sugar.  It will neutralize the pH, decreasing the bacteria. Drinking primarily water is the best for your teeth.
  • Increased stress can cause you to grind and clench your teeth, leading to pain and tooth loss.  It’s hard to limit your stress, but RELAX!  It’s good for you!
  • Keep your regularly scheduled preventative care dental appointment! Our hygienists are trained to help you maintain a healthy oral environment. We’ve followed all of the CDC guidelines and more The safety of our staff and patients is the most important thing to us.

Regular dental checkups are one of the best ways to keep up with your oral health. Call us or schedule an appointment online if you’re due for a checkup!
