What is Invisalign?

Do you have crooked teeth?

Invisalign may be the right solution to improve your smile. Crooked teeth are more than a cosmetic dental concern. Crooked teeth can affect your oral health because patients have a difficult time cleaning all parts of their teeth. When the teeth are not thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis dental concerns like tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease may wreak havoc on your oral health. Although we offer effective, conservative dental services to treat a wide range of complex dental issue, the best form of treatment is preventive dental care. Treating a crooked smile now can reduce the chance of your developing issues in the future. If you would like to determine if Invisalign is right for you, contact Westermann Family Dentistry in Louisville, KY.

Invisalign Treatment in Louisville, KY

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a set of clear, removable aligners made from flexible plastic. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign does not require brackets or wires. Invisalign can be used to improve the appearance of gapped teeth

How does Invisalign work?

Typically Invisalign treatment lasts anywhere from 12-18 months. Patients will need to wear their aligners for 20-22 hours a day for effective treatment. Patients can remove their aligners to brush, floss, and eat. You will need to change your aligners about every two weeks. Throughout your treatment, your aligners will help slowly shift your teeth in a more aligned position.

Who can benefit from Invisalign?

Invisalign can be an effective solution for teen and adult patients with mild to moderate alignment problems. Dr. Westerman will determine if Invisalign, six-month smiles, or another orthodontic treatment is right for you.

How do I take care of my Invisalign aligner

Like your normal teeth, it is important to keep your Invisalign aligner trays clean. Patients can clean their aligners using a traditional toothbrush and toothpaste. Make sure you rinse with warm water because hot water can warp your aligners, changing the shape of them and making them virtually useless. If you do happen to damage your aligners, contact our Louisville dental office.

What happens after Invisalign?

After Invisalign, Dr. Westermann may suggest a retainer. A retainer may prevent your teeth from shifting. Not all patients will need a retainer so be sure to ask your dentist about what is right for you.
